a journey to a spotless mind

"Congratulations, it's a Baby Girl", the doctor says, as he hands over the new born baby girl to her mother while the nurse straps the umbilical cord.

Chapter 1: Dream

Dreams are, in fact, manifestations of reality, it is the amount of mutation that reality undergoes in our mind that makes it appear far-fetched.

It is an unusual dream, he thought.

Asleep. Dreaming. Conscious. Like a fly on the wall, he was quietly experiencing and sneaking on his own dream. He was mind boggled by the visuals that his dream had to offer. The visuals were unlike anything that he would possibly experience in waking life.

The sky up above was deep bluish dark with a million stars twinkling, there was no sight of the moon. But the thing that he was boggled by, was the surreal fact that, even though the sky called it night, his surroundings were brightly lit as day. At a closer look he saw millions-and-millions of rainbow’ish molecular self-lit tiny bubbles floating in the surrounding and lighting up the whole space below the dark sky. He was dreaming of a space where it was Day & Night at the same time.

The insanely beautiful visuals moved him deeply bringing a stream of happy tears running down his cheeks. At times he was gazing at the sky, at the stars and at other times he was looking at the brightly lit surrounding. The dream was something to behold and he wished to remember this dream in waking life.

The algorithm behind the fine balance of dream and consciousness is beyond human intellect to understand, let alone to control.

For long, he was a mere spectator, fully conscious of his dream, not willing to disturb the harmony of the unfolding dream sequence. But the visuals were too luring and almost orgasmic, that it got the better of him. Now he started acting on his desire and extended his hands to touch the floating self-lit bubbles. Even as he was extending his hands, on a second undercurrent of thought he wanted to stop. But before he could decide for sure it was too late, and no sooner he touched the self-lit bubbles, the bubbles exploded creating a void unplugging him out of dreamland.

Chapter 2: Trapped

I think I have been sleeping for months now, he thought, or maybe it is only a few minutes, strange that I feel this way…

He could not open his eyes. He thought, maybe he has been, in fact, sleeping for long. Extended hours of sleep always leaves his eyelids all swelled up. It is like carrying half slit lemon under his eyelids. The swelling takes half a day to normalize. On a funny note, he thought, if it were to be true, that he has been sleeping for months (which is impossible), his eyelids would have turned into a tennis ball out of swelling.

He wanted to remove any eye puss with his fingers, but he could not move his hands. He sensed his fingers rolled into his palm making a tight fist, which seemed hard to unclench. Neither could he move his legs nor could he move his body. He wanted to scream but he was voiceless. He realized having tied to his belly. He was stuck in a tight, cramped, sticky space. He felt trapped. His heart started pounding irregularly as multitude of frightening horrifying thoughts swept his mind.

For once he thought it to be a dream. But it was not. He could actually feel being tied and placed inside a space made from a very unlikely thing, something like “inside of a human mouth”. Having realized this, a bizarre uneasiness took over him as he roughly recollected a Biblical story of Jonah being tested by God, who is swallowed by a whale and who spent about three days inside the whale.

Is God in charge here?? he questioned.

He was not a believer. He was not always a non believer too. As a child he did accept God without questioning. He heard Biblical stories after Sunday prayers. He always loved stories as a child. It would not be wrong to say that he attended Sunday prayers only to hear those fascinating stories. But as he grew up, everything appeared preachy and fictional to him. Though he was never vocal about his non-belief out of fear of bad omen (if God were to exist), on the inside he had long shut the door on faith.

Even in this extremity, even if God indeed were to exist, it was hard to believe that he was being tested by God. Firstly because he had no faith and in all the stories that he could recollect God only tested people with faith. And secondly because being eaten by a whale or for that matter any other big animal is totally out of question because neither he went/lived in the middle of an ocean nor in the middle of a jungle in an era of dinosaurs.

He grew weary of the random thoughts cris-crossing his mind. He could not conclude on anything concrete. His restlessness grew multi fold when he realized that all this while he was thinking in a female'ish tone. He could not understand how his tonality of thoughts changed. He was puzzled. He was tired. He was hungry. Amidst all this chaos, one thing was for sure, that he was in deep trouble.

Soon a strange aroma filled the cramped tight space numbing his thoughts and sedating him into deep sleep.

Chapter 3: Redemption

Am I Dead??, he questioned.

Towards the later part of his waking life, he always thought of ending things. Ending his life. His life appeared to be meaningless. He had no real passion about anything. He was dragging himself day in and day out. He slept for long hours. He developed an irregular diet habit. He grew numb to pain, to happiness, to joy. Nothing excited him. Nothing provoked him.  He felt empty. He felt like nothing. Like nobody.

Suicide was never an option because he just could not gather the guts and commit to  it. But nonetheless, he did run through suicidal options in his mind. There were nights when he stood on his knees and silently prayed to God, if he were to really exist, to kill him in his sleep. The next morning on waking up he had this question. Am I dead??. And every such morning he was left to sip coffee with disappointment.

Quite unsure, but his last memory from waking life was waiting for the pedestrian traffic signal to turn green. And that's it. He has no recollection of the signal turning green. No memory of even crossing the road. But he does remember his devilish thought of jumping in front of a speeding car while waiting for the signal to turn green. But he did not jump. Or did he actually jump ??. He has no recollection of it.

If he were to be sure about his last memory then he could have concluded that he actually acted on his devilish thought he had while waiting for the signal to turn green. And excuse his mind for not registering the final act of jumping as it would have been too much for it to process and would only expect it to go blank. But he was unsure of his last memory. In his recollections what also appears to be his last memory from waking life, was him going to bed after making his usual request to God, if he were to exist. And he has no recollection of waking up either.

So am i dreaming?? or am i dead ??, he questioned.

He started hearing noises from a distance. Noises appeared to be a mixture of screams and murmurs. He sensed strange vibrations and movement intermittently. It was the mixture of screams and murmurs that sounded very familiar to him.  He sensed that he had heard this sound before. His eyes wide opened and brain froze when he actually narrowed down the source of sound in his thoughts.

“Sound of Hell”, he thought, it is the sound of hell from hell and I am being sent to hell to burn forever after death.

It strongly resembled the sound that he heard over a tape recorder, as a child, labeled “Sound of Hell”.

His heart started pounding. A stream of uncontrollable fearful tears started dripping. He wanted to wake up. He wanted his daily morning sip of coffee. He wanted to stay around his meaningless life. He wanted to experience the ferocious sun. He wanted to breathe. He wanted to feel the wind. He wanted to smell the sweet scent of a flower. He wanted to have a delicious meal. He wanted the signal to turn green and cross the road. He wanted to fall asleep after thanking God for his life. He wanted to believe. Moreover, more than anything he wanted to simply live.  His tears won't stop dripping. He knew it was too late. He apologizes for doubting God’s existence.

The vibration and movement accelerates and so does the mixture of scream and murmurs. As deluges of light enters the pitch dark cramped scene, blinding his sight briefly and erasing all his past memories.

"Congratulations, it's a Baby Girl", the doctor says, as he hands over the new born baby girl to her mother while the nurse straps the umbilical cord.

Few Years Later

This is few years after parting away Im seeing her again Standing across a distance accompanied by a stranger Putting on a beautiful smile I have wilfully dreamt of this dreadful moment for many a times Dreadful because of the varied outcome it entails One of the most dreadful outcome was in answering to myself, Will she recognise me??If not Such lack of recognition would define what I meant to her It would exactly mean what a crowd of people walking under the bridge mean to a  person standing over the bridge for a smoke As no crowd ever had any face, All they have is a very visible unidentified presence More importantly it says a smoker just doesn't give a damn It would be more than any human indignation possible, as it also reaffirms that you are not remembered Which would prove that my favourite song "you are not alone" by MJ which use to bring some respite at one among many moments of despair,  was not for me My heart started gathering pace with beati...

Wonder

How many number of times a day do we look ourselves in the mirror?? And most of every such time we are posing just one question "Do I look alright??" expecting a confirmation from the reflection part of us that   "You look perfect" or "You look pretty alright" or "Not bad" We have been doing this day in and day out so much that its almost like an unnoticeable self centered routine part of us, among others things This evening I watched the trailer of a movie called "Wonder", which revolved around a kid called Auggie having a disfigured face due to multiple surgeries The trailer was indeed moving After watching the trailer I was forced to think as to "How many times do people having a disfigured face or people having marks on their faces look themselves in the mirror?? If they do even once a day or a week, do they expect a confirmation from the mirror as to how they look?? I'm not really sure, what reality is.... But I...
